I just finished the book gifts of imperfection by I just finished the book gifts of imperfection by Brené Brown and it was so good for so many reasons. One of the things that stuck out to me was the importance of play and being silly as an adult. I feel like I have tried to prioritize my making and creativity. But there is something quite vulnerable about switching genres and attempting something that you’re not good at. Last week I decided it would be fun to buy a ton of flowers and try to make some floral bouquets for a few friends. Luckily, I had some great tips. I had learned from @trailgirlfriend in our craft club.

I removed the thorns, organize the flowers and tried to make balanced bouquets. It was a fun challenge to wrap them in craft paper. One of the most important things to me about making is accepting that I’m not going to be great at it on my first go , or maybe even on my 20th attempt. But having a growth mindset is really good practice for the other things I take on in my life. Embracing imperfection and doing something purely for the fun of it seems to be really important in striving for whole-heartedness. Thanks to @brenebrown for the advice!

So I went to my local Saver’s and found this pink T-shirt. I knew I wanted a Liberty of London floral print on the front. I have a special little box in my stash that only holds Liberty fabric I’ve acquired through the years with a label that says, “established 2015.” 😂
I found this little hankie my sister bought me a few years ago and I knew it would be the perfect size. And turns out the shade of pink in the flowers perfectly matched the shirt I had found. I projected a heart onto the fabric, cut it out, adhered it to wonder under fusible interfacing, folded all the edges underneath, and sewed around the edge. It’s always tricky to add a woven material to a knit fabric, but I went super slow, used a stretch thread, a microtex needle, and slightly increased my stitch length.
Cost breakdown:
Thrifted shirt- $6
Liberty hankie (gift)- $12
Interfacing used- $.50
Stretch thread used- $.20
Total- $18.70
Took about an hour of my labor plus washing the shirt in advance.

Happy belated Valentine’s Day! Sending love to you and yours!
If you’re a quilter, you’re probably not gonna If you’re a quilter, you’re probably not gonna like watching this. But hear me out. I had a dull blade on my fabric rotary cutter that I wanted to replace. Instead of throwing away the old blade, I just wrote “paper“ on it and I’ve been using it instead of my paper cutter lately and I love it so much. I have way more precision and control and it’s just another fabulous use for my rotary blade and mat.

It’s quite useful for making these Valentine’s for my son’s class party. Get them started on loving transparent rulers while they’re young, right?! 😉
I can finally share all about my latest quilt! I g I can finally share all about my latest quilt! I gifted it to my friend at her baby shower today.
I used all fabrics from my stash and I wanted to try out a new piecing method. I saw it first on a quilt made by @chloedala and she used the tutorial from @filminthefridge to make these blocks. It’s called 2x4. I’ll link to the tutorial in my stories. I really liked using it because the blocks came together quickly and I like being able to use so many different fabrics, but I feel like you can appreciate them more in bigger pieces than if it had been a traditional patchwork.
The backing was given to me by my mom from extra on one of her quilts. I still have some batting in my stash that I could have pieced together, but since this one is for a new baby, I wanted it to be able to be washed often without having any structural integrity risks.

I hand stitched horizontal rows with white sashiko thread. I planned to use a hera marker to mark my lines, but ended up just spacing it by eye. Hoping nothing is too crooked!
I really love making new designs on my tile mat fr I really love making new designs on my tile mat from @letterfolk, but I was missing a few key colors. So I bought them over the holidays and came up with this organization system. I love that the box color matches the shade of the tile and the color key is so helpful when coming up with new designs! My kind of craft project!
I made another quilt coat! This one is the #tamara I made another quilt coat! This one is the #tamarackjacket from @grainlinestudio. From my vantage point, it’s the original quilt coat pattern and I can see why. It’s a classic silhouette and simple construction.
I’m working on a pieced version but I wanted to do a practice round. I bought this quilt at Sam’s Club on clearance for $5 a few years ago! Such a steal of a deal. I was able to unpick all of the binding and use it for the edges of everything, so that was a nice perk. The material is quite thin. Every time I wear it, pieces of batting come and pill at the sleeves (last two photos). It’s driving me nuts!

I purchased the curve size range. So this is a size 18 front and back with size 20 sleeves. I wanted it to be plenty roomy so I could wear a sweater underneath. I used the patch pockets pattern from the all well cardigan coat instead of the welt pockets. They’re a bit too large and hit higher than I’d like. So for my next version, I am reducing the height and I’m going to place them a little bit closer to the bottom hem.

Big thanks to @summitdogdesigns for helping me figure out how to add snaps!
I completed this quilt last year but I never poste I completed this quilt last year but I never posted the finished project.

I made up a little pinwheel pattern, based on something my sister had seen online. There was a lot of math involved but I pulled through! I used Kona solids and backed it with wideback minky. It was quilted as a grid by @knotandthread.

I did a scrappy binding on the edge. It was a housewarming gift for my sister’s freshly remodeled apartment in downtown Salt Lake City and it looks great on her bed.

I won’t do a cost breakdown on this one since it was a gift. But suffices to say, you need to love someone a lot to give them a quilt like this. 😊
Happy New Year! I’ve been sick with a cold sinc Happy New Year!
I’ve been sick with a cold since New Year’s Eve, but I’m finally coming out of it. Cleaning all things, filling up the donation piles, and bringing out a new quilt!
I finished this one a couple months ago but it’s been patiently waiting for its wall debut until today! (I just use T-pins and a hammer and I love rotating small quilts as wall hangings in this space.)

In other news, does my begonia need help? It used to be tall and it just flopped over this week but the leaves look good. I’m thinking I may need a bigger pot or just a twig and a twisty tie if I want it to stand up.

In other other news, I’m LOVING this little roller cart I bought. (On the right side of the piano.) It has 3 levels and I’ve put all my hand stitching and felt ornament supplies in it. I may need to add some more photos, but it has a little hook and I’ve hung a mini pink trash can (yes, adorable) from the dollar store and I’m putting my thread cut offs in there instead of on the floor! What a concept! I love that I can roll this in the corner and it’s all neat and tidy. But I can move it around to anywhere I want to tackle a project. As an extra bonus, the top has a flat wood topper. And, the entire top basket can be removed, if I want to travel downstairs with just the top essentials. GAME CHANGER.

In other other other news, I’ve been playing piano nearly all my life and had hundreds of lessons. But I’m still not very good. My husband surprised me with this “Easy” sheet music from La La Land and it’s been so fun. Turns out, I just need to go down a level for piano to be more enjoyable for myself as an adult!

Hope your new year is off to a good start!
