Private Sewing Lessons and Design Consultations

After being asked about it for years, I’m excited to finally open up private consulting and one-on-one sewing tutoring. Sewing has always been about connection for me—working with my hands, slowing down, and sharing skills that help people feel confident in what they create.

I’ve taught hundreds of people hand-sewing skills through in-person workshops at colleges, refugee centers, and private creative spaces, as well as through tutorials on TV through Studio 5 and my Instagram account. Whether I’m teaching beginners or helping someone refine their technique, my approach is patient, encouraging, and very hands-on. I want learning to feel accessible, supportive, and enjoyable.

Alongside teaching, I’ve run a micro handmade business on Etsy for over 15 years, with more than 2,100 sales. I also teach small business and beginner website design classes, helping creatives turn their ideas into something sustainable and functional. With over 10 years of experience as a professional graphic and web designer, I bring both creativity and real-world strategy into everything I teach.

My goal is simple: to help you learn new skills, build confidence in your work, and feel supported every step of the way.

Sewing skills:

piecing a quilt, beginner to advanced
projector sewing patterns (basic display and editing files)
quilt construction (hand quilting, machine quilting (at home or sending to a 3rd party), binding, basting)
basic clothing construction (elastic waist pants, button-down shirts, dresses, shirts; not wedding dresses or fitted formal wear)
basic clothing alterations (hems, buttons, shortening, adding pockets)
hand embroidery
hand sewing
where to begin on any sewing project: pattern selection, fabric selection, sourcing materials and notions

My personal notions and tools may be used sparingly, but plan to have or obtain the bulk of the materials on your own.
