    Faktory Website Build

Faktory needed a new website to reflect their new look. I took their design and provided UX consulting to make their new site responsive for various devices. I built the site in Wordpress and added fun HTML 5 elements. It features their portfolio, team members, and a blog.

I’ve been real into making matching clothes late I’ve been real into making matching clothes lately! So when my son was cold yesterday but moving around too much to sit under a blanket, I decided a quilt coat his size would be the perfect match for my leftover fabric scraps.

We found a kids robe pattern that could be hacked enough to work. He was all excited for about the first 20 minutes working on it. He put his foot on my sewing machine pedal while I guided the fabric through the machine. It was very cute.

Then he got bored and switched activities. He didn’t want to try it on or wear it when I finished. I probably should have known because he doesn’t ever want to wear long sleeves, sweaters, or sweatshirts. So I was sad and turned it into a bigger issue, like why can’t my child love all the same things I love?

But here’s the way my husband coached me through my sadness about it.

Your kid can’t make you happy. You have to make something because you want to make it with no expectation of his reaction or satisfaction. If his reaction is my #1 goal, I need to learn how to make hot wheels.

So today I’m going to be grateful for more practice making a quilt coat, learning patterns, and using my serger!
He loves to watch shows with the #kilimquilt I finished him last month, so at least he likes blankets!

In other news, what’s something you’ve made your child that they LOVED?
I finished my quilt for Madeline @madeline_makes ! I finished my quilt for Madeline @madeline_makes ! I detailed the process on my stories, there’s a saved highlight called “quilt making.”

I’ve waited to post my final photos of it until she had opened it.(If you’re new, my friend and I traded a hand quilted quilt and she is knitting me a sweater.)

This project has been very fun for us to plan. We decided we wanted it themed around the concept of “black and white thinking.” We’ve spent a lot of time chatting the past couple years about how there is a lot of gray area and life is not simply black and white, wrong or right, bad or good.

For some context, Madeline and I were roommates our freshman year of college. It was in conversations with her (and @lolototobobo) that I learned about YouTube, Facebook, and This American Life. 2 platforms and 1 radio show that have helped me learn a bunch of new information. We were both art majors and we’ve been able to process our faith in both religion and humanity together, as it’s stretched and evolved.

We wanted to do a quilt with different shades of gray to visually represent the complexity in the world. I quilted in white- with the idea that goodness holds us all together. The positive, the hope. I hope she loves it as much as I loved thinking about it and making it!
Been busy making hearts and scrunchies! The hearts Been busy making hearts and scrunchies! The hearts are out of felt with a blanket stitch and filled with stuffing, but I threaded them onto string and now I have a little valentine garland!

The scrunchies have been way more fun than I expected. I followed a great YouTube tutorial by @made_everyday and I’ve worn one everyday the past couple weeks. Such versatility!
My friend, Cass @novaquilts asked in her feed toda My friend, Cass @novaquilts asked in her feed today, what’s the craziest thing you’ve done for a quilt pic. Here’s mine! Climbing massive boulders at the Great Salt Lake last month to take a hold up my quilt. Usually my husband holds the quilts and I take the picture, but he was wearing the baby on his back so I didn’t send him into the rocks. 🤣
Mountains on rocks on lakes on mountains. This is Mountains on rocks on lakes on mountains. This is probably my favorite quilt I’ve ever made. Hours and hours of hand stitched fun!
I finally finished my son’s doll! I planned to h I finally finished my son’s doll! I planned to have his clothes finished in time for Christmas, but here we are in February. I’ve learned a few things
1- my son had plenty of wonderful Christmas surprises and I don’t want his handmade toys to have to compete with other stuff. 🤣
2- It’s more important to work on a project when I want to instead of making fake deadlines for myself. And I’m really glad I put it down and took a break so I could really enjoy the process.

I wanted it to look like my son, so I embroidered his name is on the overall pocket. But it gets a little confusing to have an extra “person” with the same name as someone else in the house. So we’re calling him Lars Junior. He’s already taken him to the playground and a stroller ride and the river. We went outside to take a photo of my latest quilt and my son said, “Now a picture with me and Lars Jr. please?” 🥰

My mom found my American girl doll bed and bedding and it’s the perfect size for this doll! So we did surprise him with that on Christmas. It’s pretty fun to see my kid play with a toy my mom made me. Generational making and playing!

Pattern: Ginger doll by @jodiericrac with modified hair

Fabric: from @spoonflower by @katerhees (another Utahn!) and @scarlette_soleil
Made another knit top! The pattern is the #scoutte Made another knit top! The pattern is the #scouttee. I’ve made this size of the pattern before but this one turned out much bigger, so any ideas for how to shrink a knit shirt that’s already been washed? It’s ok, just a bit more gapey at the neck than I like.

It’s not exactly the fit I hoped for but I’m getting much better at sewing knits and it’s exciting to see progress!
My machine is back from being serviced and my twin needle is working way better now! Definitely need to get my machine serviced more often.

Feeling very sentimental about this. I love my boy Feeling very sentimental about this. I love my boys. And I now love making us matching clothes. Almost as much as I love hearing Lars say, “Mom, Peter is wearing his cloud shirt! Let’s race to put ours on too.” 🥰
